There will also be an addition under this head in connection with the Mail Subsidy. If Mr Johnson's calculations are accepted by the Arbitrator Hong Kong will have to pay about £120 a year more than it does at present and about £800 for arrears. If the General Post Office win their case Hong Kong will have to pay something like £20,000 in arrears and an additional yearly payment of something like £3400. Such a payment for arrears would upset the balance of the Estimates but I suppose arrangements could be made for paying in instalments.

The Head Mistress's salary is still put down as £120 to £160 by £30 triennially. This is impossible. It should doubtless be £120 to £160 by £20 (as I suggested on 33338) but as they have repeated the error we had better ask about it, before they appoint anyone on these terms.
As to the matter dealt with in paragraph 3 (v) of despatch ?leave to his discretion the question of admitting girls to the School and approve his proposals as they stand.
The increases under Education amounting to nearly $25,000 in all have been approved beforehand. The introduction of the new Code results in an addition of about $5000 to the Grants.
Police
They have made no provision for the Police Probationer which is rather careless. This means a further sum of about $3,000, including salary and quarters allowance.
