With reference to your Circular Despatch of 2nd August in connection with a series of lectures to be given by Professor W. J. Simpson at the London School of Tropical Medicine on the Hygiene of the Tropics, I have the honour to inform you that after having heard the opinion of the Principal Civil Medical Officer on this subject, I have decided that the fees of any Officer in the Public Works, Police, Medical and Sanitary Departments who may be on leave and desirous of attending this course of lectures shall be defrayed from the revenue of the Colony.
2. I have issued a General Order to this effect, of which I transmit a copy for your information.
3. In connection with the subject of Sanitary instruction, I do not know whether you are aware of the existence here of a local branch of the Sanitary Institute of Great Britain. Instruction is given every winter by lectures which have been well attended by Sanitary Inspectors, Officers of the Public Works Department and civilians attached to the Royal Engineers and Naval Dock-yard.
