But if there is any period to which I might call special attention to my work in this Registry is to the period marked, (b) 30th May 1900 to 7th April 1902.-During this period the present Registrar, then Senior Deputy, went to England on sick leave and for nearly 2 years under Mr Norton-Kyshe, recently retired, I did the work of this Registry and received very feeble support.
8. When I entered this Registry in 1897 I had already passed my Bar Final Examination, and was called to the Bar in June 1903. During my tenure of office in this Court, I have gained much experience as a lawyer.

While fully recognizing the unique position that Cadets hold in the Hong Kong Civil Service, I have never known a case in which a Cadet, simply because he is a Cadet, in legal appointments has taken precedence to a Barrister-at-law, and I most respectfully submit that the present case, for my reasons already given, is not one that can with justice and reasonable fair treatment to me allow Mr Kemp to step into the Registry as Senior Deputy Registrar, but rather that he should come in as Deputy Registrar and Accountant, thus giving him the best possible training, and with submission, dispensing justice to me,
