merely I suppose there is no harm in turning the position around?

Proud as proposed?

Whether anyone can say this land will not in time become valuable?

I think we showed him directly to arrange things with Admiralty on the terms referred to in that paragraph.

On the whole I think we can let it stand & write to Admiralty as suggested.

Sir,

In reply to your Despatch No. 27 of the 15th January, I have the honour to inform you that compensation ($391.35) for the private property on the peninsula between Long Harbour and Jones' Cove has been paid by the Colonial Government and the property resumed.

The Naval Authorities are taking steps to repay the sum mentioned to the Colonial Government, and I have now to forward to you for your approval the Memorandum of Transfer under which it is proposed that the Admiralty should hold the property.

2. As it is extremely unlikely that this particular area will be required by the Colonial Government in the future for the commercial development of the Colony, or that it will become of greater residential value than any other part of Mirs Bay, the form of transfer seems the simplest and most satisfactory.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C., M.P.,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
