Copy of a letter from Mr. E.H. Sharp, The Office Administering the Government

His Excellency

C.O. 671/20

His Excellency Sir H.H. Smyth, K.C.M.G.

dated 30th April 1904

Government House.

My Dear Sir,

With regard to your Excellency's recent proposal to appoint me acting Attorney General during the absence on leave of Sir William Goodman, I understand that he will probably return. In this event, and as the late Sir Henry Berkeley being appointed in his stead, I should, I think you know, be very glad to succeed to the post of Attorney General. May I ask you to forward an application therefor, and to lay it before the Secretary of State with any remarks which you see fit to make?

As to my legal experience, I should perhaps mention that after taking M.A. and B.C.L. degree at Oxford I was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1891. I then practised in London and the Midland Circuit for three years, till I came here to practise in 1902, and acted as Attorney General while Chief Justice last year when Sir Henry Berkeley was away.

I was made King's Counsel in 1903.

I am, my dear Sir,

Your obedient servant,

(Signed) E.H. Sharp.
