5. I would draw attention to the fact the government Bacteriologist was appointed on a sterling salary that he ... who applied for ... and was granted ... allowance. A despatch to the Secretary of State dated the 4th September 1902 stated that Dr. Tausch, who is in charge of the laboratory, has therefore to live close to that institution.
