Hongkong.
Sir,
Government House,
Hongkong, 26th April, 1904.
610 C.O.
I have the honour to inform you that Messrs. Butterfield and Swire have applied to the Government to be allowed to introduce into the Colony an explosive named Cheddite, which they say is a high grade explosive and looked upon as much safer to use than Dynamite or other nitro-compounds. It is manufactured by Messrs. Curtis and Harvey, London. The applicants also contemplate importing the principal explosives manufactured by Messrs. Curtis and Harvey comprising Gelignite, Gelatine Dynamite, Blasting Gelatine, Bobbinite, and Compressed Gunpowder.
2. I shall be glad to be informed whether the importation and use of these explosives can properly be allowed under the Dangerous Goods Ordinance (No.8 of 1873), as I have no information to guide me in the matter.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
ALFRED LYTTELTON, K.C., M.P.,
Officer Administering the Government.
