to £480 by increments of £30 triennially, which is the same

salary as that drawn by the Senior Assistant Master at Queen's

College. When that transfer takes place I propose to ask for

the appointment of a successor to Mr. Williams at Salyingpun

School on the same salary as that now drawn by him.

3.

The other items call for no special re-

mark, and I have to recommend that the increases in expenditure

be approved. I consider that the increase to Mr. Curwen's

salary is reasonable in view of the increased work which will

devolve upon him when Mr. Williams is transferred to Yaumati.

The proposed new Anglo-Chinese Schools at Tanglungchau and

Aberdeen are much required, and will probably pay their way

before long. A copying clerk for the Inspector's Office has

also become necessary with the gradual increase of clerical

work in the Department. The total increase in the Estimates

for next year involved in the adoption of all the recommenda-

tions will be $3,261, if Mr. Williams is appointed on the

higher salary from the beginning of the year.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

...

Officer Administering the Government.
