While these three cases were proceeding, the ordinary Crown work was not abated in the least (September Sessions was the heaviest on record), and in order to cope with it, I had to draw very largely upon the assistance of the whole staff of our firm, so that at times 3 Solicitors and 5 clerks were engaged on Government work; while I myself was working practically day and night, Sundays and holidays included.

The net result to Mr. Dennys and myself has been a very considerable loss in our private practice, which I fear will not be merely temporary, as when clients are once diverted from one office to another, they do not readily return.

The ordinary market value of my work on the 8 cases I estimate at $5,000.

The remuneration of the Crown Solicitor is entirely inadequate even for the ordinary work devolving upon him, which, as I have pointed out, was not diminished but rather increased during the period under review.

I trust, therefore, that the Government will see its way to allowing me some additional remuneration in respect of these cases, all of which have resulted in complete success for the Crown.
