storage. But in the wet summers with dry winters a greater ratio of

storage to catchment would be an advantage and in very dry years

a greater ratio of catchment to storage would be advantageous.

Taking however the above ratio as a basis the

complete scheme works out as follows:-

Site No. 1 natural drainage area. .460 acres.

Do. catchwater. 1,000 do.

Site No. 2.. .219 do. 1,679 acres

or about 2 Square Miles, giving therefore a supply of 22 million

gallons a day and requiring a storage of 500 million gallons. Reservoir No. 1 if raised 5 feet as proposed will hold 250,000,000

and therefore Reservoir No. 2 should be built to hold 150,000,000,

its drainage area of 219 acres will not be sufficient to fill this

in a dry year, and therefore it will be necessary to draw during

the summer exclusively from No. 1. There is the possibility that a

reservoir site may be found within the catchwater area and so

modify the requirements of storage at Site No. 2, but this need

not be gone into at present, we are only now concerned to show

that if the catchwater is constructed to intercept the water from

1,000 acres, that water will not be wasted.

Yours faithfully,

(Sd.) Denison, Ram and Gicbs.
