I have authorised the Director of Public Works to charge this
amount in the first instance to the vote for "Water-works
Miscellaneous", on which no considerable demands are at present
anticipated. As the water will be filtered, there is no reason
why the full rate of 50 cents per 1,000 gallons should not be
adopted; in which case the entire outlay on the work should
be more than recovered certainly within a year.

As the Public Works Department is fully
occupied with other works, the work of construction has been
placed in the hands of Messrs. Denison, Ram, and Gibbs, who
are already engaged on the Kowloon Waterworks, and it is
anticipated that the work will be completed within seven or
eight months.
