Government in an additional expense of about $580 per annum (which however would automatically decrease with the advent of a greater number of pupils), the Inspector of Schools was requested to communicate with one or two influential members of the local Indian Community with a view to inviting their assistance by a pecuniary donation to cover the amount above mentioned.

I now attach a copy of a further minute by the Inspector of Schools, and a copy of Mr. Arcuilli's letter therein referred to, and I have the honour to recommend that the proposals therein referred to be approved. You will observe that they include an increase in the salary of the Second Mistress at Kowloon British School; but if Mrs. Hatwell is to be appointed Mistress of the Indian School, the difficulty which has already been experienced in engaging a Second Mistress at Kowloon School cannot otherwise be overcome.
