Hong Kong Tramways.
With reference to our letter of 19th instant and your reply 1.1493 of 20th instant, Messrs. Shewan, Tomes & Co. wired same day to London the following: "so as to avoid interference with ricksha traffic Director of Public Works 'Hong Kong wants 1/8" groove on straight and 1/6 curves will you agree to? if not what is narrowest can use?' Reply was received yesterday as follows :- 'Referring to your telegrams of 20th we will agree to an all round groove less will not do get their approval and wire what you relay.'
We trust therefore we shall be able to approve of a groove of 1/8", as we are sure our friends at home have given the minimum size which can be used consistently with proper running of the cars.
Yours faithfully,
Messrs. Leigh Orange.
