I consider it most undesirable that expenditure should be incurred for a gratuity which would have done anything but still remain an exception.

I should be glad if you would inform Dr. Atkinson that he should not have told her that he had commanded the impropriety of having omitted this and putting it in her hands.

I do not think that the different opinions between himself and his inferior, Myers, should be taken to the official, which is not fitting for a gratuity.
