outlay of some £200,000 or more may be, when the works are completed, made unremunerative unless it agrees to a demand which is outside the terms of the Ordinance.

The Directors view this matter most seriously and consider that it ought not to be possible for such a contingency to arise.

As, however, the great desire of the Directors is to avoid friction and to work in the most friendly manner with your Department, they instruct us to say that they would be obliged if you would be kind enough to express your views upon the obligations of the Company in this particular.

Should you decide that the Company is bound by the terms of the Ordinance to concrete for the full width between double lines when the distance between those lines exceeds four feet, then the Company will do so.

The Directors would, therefore, be more than obliged if you would be kind enough to favour them with your views upon this point.
