Sir:-

Hong Kong Tramways.

In reading through our letter of yesterday to the

Under Secretary of State we think the latter would have been

made more clear if we had enclosed sketches showing cross

sections of the permanent way construction.

We therefore take the liberty of sending you herewith

four prints.

No 1 shows the original form we submitted for the approval

of your Department; No 2 that suggested to the Director of

Public Works as a compromise; No 3 the form he is insisting

upon in certain instances, and No 4 the form approved of

for Singapore.

The Director of Public Works has, in certain instances,

approved of the form of construction shown on No 2, and

although we are of opinion that the 6" of surface concrete is,

under the circumstances, unnecessary, as a compromise our

clients would accept this form of construction, in the case

of double line with centre poles restricting this 6" of surface

concrete to between the rails and for the marginal distances

outside the rails as set forth in the Ordinance.

Yours faithfully,

Alfred Dickinson & Co
