I am directed to inform you that Mr J. Carroll, Overseer P.W.D. will retire from the service of Hongkong at the end of his leave of absence - the 26th inst.

I am to request that, pending the settlement of the amount of his pension, you will issue to Mr Carroll, from the 1st proximo, an alimentary allowance, subject to adjustment hereafter, if necessary, at the rate of $600 a year at 3/6 the dollar.
