In reply to Mr. Lucas's letter, No. 8573/03, of the
7th instant, I am directed by the Comptroller and Auditor
General to acquaint you, for the information of the
Secretary of State, that he concurs in the arrangement
made by telegraph with the Governor of Hong Kong that Mr.
Nicolle, the Local Auditor of that Colony, shall examine
the public accounts of Wei Hai Wei.
2. The Comptroller and Auditor General assumes that a
further communication will be made to him in due course as
to Mr. Nicolle's remuneration for this extra work.
