I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to offer you the appointment proposed to select you for Nursing Sister in the Civil Medical Service, Hongkong.

Your salary will be at the rate of £110, rising after 3 years service, dating from your arrival in the Colony to £120 a year. Uniform, lodging and attendance are provided.

2. For the purposes of local payment your salary will be converted into dollars at a rate of exchange, which will be fixed weekly based on the average rate during the preceding month.

3. It is to be understood that your engagement is for not more than 3 years from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not qualified or fit for efficient service there, the Secretary of State will have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said three years without giving you any further compensation than a passage back to England, which will be granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have, by your good conduct, deserved it. If not previously terminated, the appointment will cease at the end of the said 3 years, unless expressly renewed. You will then be provided with a passage to England.

Your salary will commence on your arrival in the Colony, and will be raised to £120 a year after 3 years service.

It is also to be understood that your services will be available for any Government hospital in the Colony, and that it will be within the discretion of the Governor, in the interest of the public service, to employ you in the Victoria Hospital for Women or elsewhere as he may think it desirable to station you.

It will be necessary for you to express your acceptance of the conditions stated in this letter before your appointment is confirmed.
