Fortification were erected on Stonecutters' Island in but no record can be traced of the sites of these defences being formally handed over to the WO or any map showing clearly the recognised boundaries of such sites.

In 1883 a lazaretto was built on the island by the Govt with the concurrence of the W.O., and the plan furnished at that date (returned to G.O. in W.O. Is of 31 Jan '84) showed Reserve Land practically as Military Land - the 4 sites indicated in map at end of W.O. dated as to Hongkong land, 1890.
