The prohibition imposed by the Provincial authorities on July 24th last, although not notified by the Customs at the time, was yet given effect to by the refusal of the Commissioner to permit the export of certain cattle belonging to a British Firm, as reported in my Despatch of August 2nd. The withdrawal of the prohibition, although officially communicated to the Customs Department by the Viceroy, is not recognised pending the receipt of instructions from the Inspector General in Peking.
