HIS BRITANNIC MAJESTY'S CONSULATE GENERAL,
CANTON.
February 14th, 1903.
b.6.
My Lord:-
I have the honour to enclose herewith copy of my despatch No.5 of the 12th instant to His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Peking reporting the recent discovery of a plot against the Canton officials.
The movement, which was apparently well organised and which, had it attained its object, might have caused serious trouble in this part of China, was, however, checked in its initial stages; and, though a feeling of unrest still undoubtedly prevails, matters have, to all outward appearances, now resumed their normal condition.
I have, &c.
(Signed)
James Scott,
His Majesty's Consul General.
The Marquess of Lansdowne, K.G.,
