I am directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge

the receipt of your letter of the 7th instant (No.24054/03

forwarding a draft Order in Council to confirm the Hong

Kong Merchant Shipping Ordinances Nos. 36 of 1899, 31 of

1901 and 2 of 1903.

In reply, I am to suggest, for the consideration of

Mr. Secretary Chamberlain,that the Order in Council might

specifically refer to Section 35 of the Ordinance No. 31

of 1901, which appears to be the only section in any of

the three Ordinances which expressly repeals any provi-

sion of the Merchant Shipping Act of 1894.

The enclosures forwarded with your letter are re-

turned herewith.
