Gentlemen,

(1) I understand that the Director of Public Works, Hong Kong, now proposes to construct a storage reservoir in a lateral valley, joining the Main Tytam Tuk Valley, a mile or so below the existing Tytam Dam.

(2) Mr. F. Cooper in his report dated 1896, mentions this Reservoir site, but does not recommend its immediate utilisation, because its level is below that of the Tytam Tunnel, and consequently pumping would be required to utilise its waters. I may add that pumping was first suggested by myself in a report dated January 1902.

(3) Mr. Chatham now suggests the construction of the reservoir at site No. 4, (vide plan dated 23.10.03 which accompanied Despatch No. 483 dated Government House, Hong Kong, 22nd October 1903.) because construction can be immediately proceeded with, and completed promptly.
