13th October 1903.
Sir,
With reference to a submission dated 16th June 1903, No.434/H.K.607, from the Commodore in Charge, Hong Kong, and to previous correspondence on the same subject, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to inform you that they have had under consideration the whole question of Rifle Range accommodation at Hong Kong.
2. I am to forward for your information, copy of a letter from the Colonial Office dated 11th April 1903, No.12515/1903, enclosing a copy of a letter from the War Office dated 3rd April 1903, Hong Kong 8/149.
3. It will be seen from the concluding paragraph of the War Office letter that it is anticipated that facilities can be given for the Navy to make use of the new Army Ranges, which, it is understood, are now completed. I am therefore to request that you will make arrangements with the General Officer Commanding for utilising these Ranges to the full extent possible.
4. In view of the remarks in your letter of the 28th June 1902, No.568, as to the present Naval Range at Kowloon, My Lords desire that this Range shall be handed over as soon as possible to the Colonial Authorities, who are pressing for its early acquisition. You should arrange with the Military Authorities as to the exact manner in which the transfer is to be made.
Commander-in-Chief, CHINA.
