carried on the accounts exactly as they have been done as far as
I can trace for 10 years.
I myself asked for the Government Auditor to check the
accounts which has never been done previously, and his queries,
which I have answered, all relate to trifling details such as
receipts in pencil, Chinese signatures unwitnessed &c. which
have been allowed by previous Commandants - I should much prefer
that the accounts should be audited in future and I will carry
out all orders received from the Hon: Treasurer or Government
Auditor.
