in full possession of her faculties but of strong character

and great intelligence. I believe that while she was in Amoy

she did threaten the life of Mr. Wilson and it is possible

that she may have attempted suicide.

I have no knowledge of the evidence upon

which the Acting Chief Justice made his Order and I do not

desire to question his action. At the same time I thought it

right to put you in possession of the true facts of this case,

which appears to have been presented to you under a very dif-

ferent complexion to that which it actually wore.
