Room, the School building, the City of Victoria shewing the site of the School
and a few main buildings, a map of the
Island, and another on a smaller scale
shewing Canton as well, would make a two years geography course, and many good lessons in Reading, Writing, and
Colloquial also.
GENERAL RULES.
Never use Chinese where English will do.
Such phrases as "What does it mean "Speak louder" "Next boy". "That's better" "Rubbish" should be picked up at once.
Never give a Chinese equivalent where a
picture or a gesture will explain. "This is trembling". "That
is an Elephant. (Picture of an Elephant.)
Always write a new word on the black-
board after its meaning and pronunciation have been mastered
by the Class. Never before.
Teach the Olass to repeat orders in
English habitually as they execute them. "Go back to your seat"
"I am going back to my seat, Sir."
