any hope of a contribution from Imperial Funds towards the

The land to which I referred in the last
paragraph of my Despatch No. 412 of the 20th. of August last
is the area of foreshore and seabed which by direction con-
veyed in Mr. Chamberlain's Despatch No. 71 of the 22nd. of
ldmy

March, 1898, was transferred free of charge to the Admiralty
for future extension (which by the way has not yet taken place)
of the Naval Yard at Kowloon. The area is 7 acres in extent
and was valued at the time at 30 cents per Square Foot, while
neighbouring properties leased to private individuals bear a
Crown Rent at the rate of $500 an acre. The premium and Crown
Rent capitalised at 25 years purchase works out, therefore,
at $178,976.
3.
The land in Victoria which I referred to
is the area of foreshore and seabed devoted to the Naval Yard
Extension and Reclamation in front of the War Department
Property. The area is 41 acres and valued at 25 cents per THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
