If the above suggestion be impracticable, the Committee hope that it will at least be found possible by the contracting Steamship Company to run a better and faster class of Steamers from Colombo to hongkong, and thus generally improve the service to China and place it more on a level with the Australian Service as regards the class and speed of the boats. This would also tend to enhance Eritish prestige, at present somewhat adversely affected by the comparison presented between the class of British vessels arriving via Colombo and those running under Continental Flags, notably the German Mail Stearers.
