Lo Chat, brothel keeper at No 60 Temple Street, Yaumati,
states:-
but
On the evening of the 3rd August, I do hot know what time, perhaps about 7 o'clock, this Sergeant came into the brothel. He was in uniform. He was talking to one of the prostitutes, Chuh Tai, in the kitchen, on the ground floor. He was only there a few moments. There was a small crowd outside, about ten men or so. Certainly not twenty outside. They came there to see what had happened because a policeman had come to the house. I do not know if any hawker had come in because I had
been upstairs.
Cross examined by the Sergeant.
What part of the house did I enter first ?
A. The passage at the back of the sitting room. The sitting room is in front. The doors were shut in front. The sitting room is only used as a public room, and I only saw him in the passage. The girl Chun Tai does not live in my house. I do not know if she is a prostitute or not. I was told she was. I am not sure that they were talking together, the Sergeant and the girl. I saw them go out together, the Sergeant first. There was a light in the sitting room and another in the kitchen which lighted the passage. He was only one or two minutes in the
house.

I did not see him enter the house. I had been upstairs about half an hour. I know the Sergeant was not in any other part of the house. Yes, I said to the Magistrate that the Sergeant was laughing with the girl. I do not know what they were laughing at, in the sitting room!
Crossexamined by Sergeant.
I am the mistress of the whole house.
