Dear Sir,
!
We have seen the Acting Captain Superintendent of Police
in reference to the assault on your coolie and the behaviour
of P.C.45, and the constable will be called up before Captain
Lyons tomorrow at 11.30 when an enquiry will be held. There is
no necessity for you to attend at present but we have arranged
that the writer shall be present at the enquiry so that the
facts may be properly brought before the Captain Superintendent.
In reply to your first remark, the constable, we under-
stand, said "I am not going to be taught my business by you" or words to that effeet, but we are not quite clear if he said anything else afterwards. Will you let us know as to this
before the enquiry takes place.
Captain Lyons informs us that the punishment usually
inflicted in cases of this nature is a reprimand which entails
**
2 black marks, and a small fine. We will duly report to you the result of the enquiry so that you may consider the question
of any further steps being taken.
We are,
yours faithfully,
Deacon and Hastings.
