I have already referred in previous Des-

patches to the increase of crime (especially robbery with

violence and larceny) which has recently been noticeable in

the Colony. I have already taken steps to cope with this in-

crease of crime and I shall address you at length on the sub-

ject in another Despatch. In the meantime I have hopes that

an abundant harvest in the adjacent provinces, after a long

period of bad harvests and famine, will reduce the number of

bad characters who have lately flocked to this Colony.
