I have the honour to transmit for your
information a copy of a Petition addressed to me by Dr. Ho Kai,
C.M.G., Reverend T. W. Pearce and Dr. R. M. Gibson, praying
for the free grant of a certain piece of Crown Land for public
and charitable purposes, and to recommend that it be granted.

have done much excellent work mong the poorer classes of
Chinese during recent years, and there is an urgent demand for
extension. An opportunity for such extension has presented
itself in the generous offer of Mrs. Wa Ting Fang widow of the
late Chinese Minister at Washington and sister of Dr. Ho Kai,
to build a new Hospital on a site to be provided; and as the
funds of the Alice Memorial and Nethersole Hospitals do not
admit of the purchase of a suitable site, the Board of Manage-
ment asks the Goverment to provide one. The site suggested
by the Petitioners, adjoining the Nethersole Hospital, is in
every way suitable, and the Director of Public Works states
that he is not aware of any public purpose to which the ground
might be put. Its area is 20,000 Square Feet, and is valued
by the Director of Public Works at 50 cents per Square Foot
