Considering the disgraceful untruths and
false statements spread broadcast about me in consequence of
the Report of the Commissioners, and my subsequent compulsory
removal from office, I beg to request, for the restitution of
my character which has been atrociously defamed through the
action of the Commissioners, that my answer be also printed and
distributed in like manner as the Beport. This will be only
simple justice, and I do not see, the Report standing by it-
self which is a most disgraceful tissue of falsehoods and a
one-sided affair, how this can be denied me. 1 therefore most
earnestly appeal to His Excellency the Governor to see that justice be done in this matter and that my character which the
Commissioners have tried their hardest to defame, be re-
established as soon as possible.

While it is true my leave of absence was
deferred at my own request, in consequence of rumours that had
most fortunately reached me, it was so deferred with the kind
permission of His Excellency the Governor to whom alone I owe
thanks for this concession, without which it is very easy to
foresee what the consequences of this clear case of collusion
(1 purposely refrain from using the more appropriate and
stronger expression) would have been. Under the circumstances
my departure having been deferred under sanction, equally l
should not have been removed from office until the purport for
which my leave had been deferred was fulfilled.

The result has been that I have been
treated in a most flagrantly unjust and scandalous manner,
which I trust will be noticed at home when all the circums-
tances are considered. It rests now with the local Government
to
