Sir,

181

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Hongkong, 20th. October, 1908.

With reference to your letter of the

17th. instant, I am directed to inform you that the proposal

made to you in my letter of the same date was a concession to a

complaint made by you in several passages of your reply to the

Report of the Registry Commission that you had had no opportuni-

ty of cross-examining the witnesses who gave evidence before

the Commission. Your leave of absence was granted to you on

your own application, and the date of your departure from the

Colony deferred at your own request. His Excellency the Gover-

nor has now no instructions to give you as to your movements.

The Report of the Commission, with your

reply, will be forwarded to the Secretary of State for the

Colonies by the next mail.
