REG 4 NOV 03,
PROCURE des MISSIONS ETRANGERES
CHANG HAY
21st September 1903.
I am in receipt of your letter of the 11th September
informing me that the Government is unable to entertain my
proposal of the 28th of August regarding the exchange of Monkey
Island against some land suitable for building in Hong Kong.
As you are aware our object in meeting you in that matter
was to take no action in disposing of our property without
giving you the opportunity of expressing your views on a sub-
ject which might possibly and eventually cause some prejudice
te interests under the care of your Government.
I beg to tender to Mr Chatham and yourself our thanks for
the kindness you have shown to us •
I have the honour to be
THE HONOURABLE F.H.MAY.
COLONIAL SECRETARY HONG KONG.
Dear Sir
Your most obedient servant
(signed) L.Robert.
