Sir,

With reference to my Despatch No. 254 of
the 18th. May last and previous correspondence on the subject
of the Sterling Salary Scheme, I have the honour to inform
you that owing to an oversight on the part of the Police
Department, which omitted to furnish the Colonial Secretary
with certain returns, I have not yet had an opportunity of
furnishing you with a list of the names of the members of the
Police Force by whom the salaries provided in that scheme
have been accepted.
2.
I transmit herewith a schedule of the
names in question, showing the date upon which each officer
concerned began to draw his salary at the Sterling rate.
Captain Lyons, Deputy Superintendent,
3.
also draws Sterling, but as he began to do so before he re-
ceived his appointment in this Colony, his name does not
appear on the schedule.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P

&C.,
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Humble servant,
Stuary Aistale
