These are the facts which I wish to bring before you and I feel sure that, probably owing to the transition from silver to sterling salaries recently decided upon, they have escaped the attention of the Colonial Office and have only to be pointed out to the authorities there to have the matter rectified.
5. I have hesitated so soon after taking up my ap- pointment to raise a question of emoluments, but I feel after due consideration that it is a point which should be settled at once -
and I trust His Excellency the Governor will take a favourable
view of my representations and appreciate the anomalous position
in which I am now placed as a responsible sub-head of a Depart-
ment with a salary inferior to that of an officer junior to me.
