Magistracy, Hongkong.
The 17th, day of June, 1903.
The information and complaint of Tam Chung taken
this day before me, the undersigned, one of His Majesty's Justices
of the Peace in and for the said Colony who states:-
1.
2.
I am a fisherman living at Yaumati, Hong Kong.
In the Autumn and Winter of 1900 I was
living at No. 1, Shin Hing Lane, Victoria, Hongkong on the
second floor. I was employed by Li Kwai Fan who has been recently
sentenced to death for the murder of Yeung Kui Wan. While I was
there (I forgøt the date) I saw a man visit Li Kwai Fan, The man said he was pilot of the Chinese Gunboat "Kin Yui", and I heard
him tell Li Kwai Fan that a despatch had been issued by the
Vuceroy to Li Ka Cheuk offering a large reward for the murder of
Yeung Kui Wan.
3.
Shortly afterwards Li Kwai Fan asked me to
assist him in killing Yeung Kui Wan but I refused to do so.
In January, 1901, I saw Yeung Tsing Kai,
4.
the Captain of the Chinese Gunboat "Kin Yui" at No. 1 Shin Wing
Lane, and on the 9th. January 1 saw Chan Lam Tsai and Tung Cheung
there and heard them talking with Li Kwai Fan about killing
Yeung Kui Wan.
5.
On the 10th. January I was in my uncle's
boat at Yaumati when Li Kwai Fan came on board at about 8 B.M..
he told my uncle in my hearing that he had shot Yeung Kui Wan and
asked to be allowed to stay there for the night but my uncle sent
him away. I afterwards saw him in Canton where he told me he had
received a large reward and a "button" (i.e. official rank) for
Killing
