On future occasions, I will endeavour to make
the information in Farticulars of Office still more explicit, in order,
as much as possible, to avoid misapprehension as to the nature of work
and prospects of promotion.

I am further of opinion that permission to
take Private Pupils, almost a universal practice in England, should
be permitted by the Government to appear as a Particular affecting
emoluments of office; and that the Regulation requiring previous
approval by the Governing Body de deemed, as in the past seven years,
to be simply a check on abuse of the privilege. It must be remembered
that Evening Extension classes are not only encouraged in England, but
actually in some instances made a condition of appointment; although
the work and remuneration are both extraneous to official duties and
salary.

As to the vacancy caused by Mr. Hollis's
resignution I would remind the Government of the promise to Mr. Bruce Mitford (0.8.0.2723/02) to acquaint him with the first vacancy; and
would recommend that His Excellency might be pleased to appoint him Junior Assistant Master (£270 - £360) on one year's probation, pending
the confirmation of the Secretary of State. It would be a great con- venience if Mr. Mitford could assume duties on 16th. April.
