With reference to my telegram of the 11th.

instant, of which I annex a transcription, I have the honour

to inform you that Mr. D. Hollis has resigned his post as Assistant Master in Queen's College, and left for England on the 2nd. instant, after refunding the cost of his passage to

the Colony.

The delay that has elapsed since Mr. Hollis

tendered his resignation in March last is due to the fact that

a Mr. Mitford, formerly of Weihaiwel and now of Yokohama, was

offered the vacant appointment on probation and after signifying

his desire to accept it finally telegraphed his refusal on

the 4th. instant.

with regard to the appointment, and have to request that you

will be good enough to urge upon the Crown Agents the desirabili.
