In reply to your letter No. 580 dated 20th. .instant, I have the honour to offer as an exaplanation re the checking of Squatters' Licences' Counterfoils that during the
13 years I have been performing the duties of Land Bailiff this
.method of checking has never been adopted.
The present method of checking is by Treasury Squatters Roll with a similar one in this Office on
all licences actually paid into Treasury during the month. The
last check agreed with Treasury book and as no monies are
received in this office I had not anticipated the licences
being disposed of in the manner they have been.
