Government House, 6 JUN C3,
Hongkong, 6th. May, 1903.
I have the honour to inform you that
Bishop Piazzoli has applied to this Government for a grant in
aid of certain extensions that have been made to the Roman
Catholic College of Saint Joseph's. These extensions which
have cost altogether $10,500 and of which I attach a plan,
consist in the addition of a new wing to the College contain-
ing class rooms similar to those in the old building. The
Director of Public Works reports that the work has been
satisfactorily executed, that the cost is not excessive and
that the structural requirements of the Code have been complied
with. I therefore ask your authority to pay the sun of $5, 250,
which is half its total cost, as a grant in aid of this work.
Out of the total Vote of $3,000 for build-
ing grants in aid during the years 1901 to 1903 the sum of
$1,500 has already been expended; a balance therefore of
$3,750 will be required for the purpose of this grant and I
have the honour to request your permission to draw for this
purpose on the unexpended balance of the grants-in-aid vote
for the current year which the Inspector of Schools estimates
will amount to over $4,000.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
