I have the honour to ac... the receipt of
your dep-s desp. No. 174 of the 2nd Apr., with its enclosures, on the subject of the our-
rency Hong Kong.
gar-
I regret that I have not returned an
lier reply to your desp., which has however been receiving my careful attention. I trans- mit to you herewith a copy of resolutions agreed to at a recent conference between Delegations from the United States, Caina and Mexico Representatives of this country, regarding
and
the monetary systems of silver-using countries and the establishment of a national currency in the Chinese capire, together with a copy of a Mossage from the President of the U.S.A which led up to the Conference. The Delegations are now discussing the silver question with Representatives of diffrageerent Governments
in Europe.
It does not appear expedient to discuss
further at the present stage the question of establishing a gold standard in E.K., the
difficulties of which are clearly stated in
bl
your desp. It appears to me out of the question
