sir,

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of yesterday,

informing me that His Excellency the Governor desires to learn my

views on the question of the currency.

In reply I have much pleasure in stating that I think the

colony would be greatly benefited by its currency being placed on a

fixed basis, but as it has been alleged in certain influential

quarters that the trade of the Colony would suffer thereby I am

therefore strongly in favour of a Commission of Inquiry of Experts

being appointed to thoroughly thresh out the question, and decide

what is really best for trade.

I have the honour to be,

Sir John Keane Bart.

Private Secretary.

Sir,

Your obedient servant,

Collater
