Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your Despatch No. 417 of 8th. December last regarding
the pensions of Mrs. Robertson and Mrs. Wildey, and with
reference to the second paragraph thereof to inform you that
the cause of the delay in the case of Mrs. Wildey's pension
was stated in the Colonial Secretary's letter to the Crown
Agents No. 2597 of 28th. November last, of which I enclose a
copy. To that letter I would add the following remarks.
2.
On the 31st. October, 1900, the Director
of Public Works reported the death of Mr. Wildey, and added
that he was a married man and a contributor to the Widows and
Orphans Fund.

resident in a country with a Gold standard should be paid
through the Crown Agents at the rate of 3/- to the dollar,
was still unsettled; the Unofficial Members of the Legislative
Council, to whom the suggestion was referred, having wished
to defer any action in the matter until a specific case arose.
At the date of General Black's Despatch No. 125 of the 28th.
April, 1898, there were no widow-pensioners of this Colony THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
