the sides of the walls of the Mortuary and Office.
10. Fine Wire Gauze ought to be placed over all the
windows and doors of the Mortuary and Office. The large numbers
of flies constantly found at present in the Mortuary constitute
an element of danger to those performing post-mortem examina-
tions.
11. The whole area of the Mortuary Compound ought
at once to be concreted 4 inches deep with cement surface. The
present arrangement is useless, being composed of broken up
and disintegrated granite which affords excellent opportunity
for harbouring all sorts of refuse and the agents of infectious
disease.
12. A Cement Skirting, 5 inches deep might be built
round all the inner walls of the Mortuary Compound. I am
thoroughly convinced that until Nos. 11 and 12 are carried out
efficiently no proper washing down and cleansing can be done.
13. The traps now in use at the Mortuary are of
0
no use. All surface channels in the Mortuary Compound ought to
be provided with proper intercepting traps of a modern pattern.
141 Two cocks with screw cuplings and hose to suit
ought to be fixed on to the two South corners of the Mortuary
building for purposes of washing down.
15. The whole of the Mortuary Compound ought to be
regularly disinfected at least twice weekly during the whole
year. This might be done by the Sanitary Department.
18. The Tables, Fittings, etc., ought to be
thoroughly scrubbed daily after removal of bodies and rats.
This might be done by the coolies in charge of the Mortuary if
they were supplied with the necessary apparatus.
17L The surface of the Mortuary Compound, dead
boxes, and dead vans, etc., ought to be properly disinfected.
