GIZ ADR
Enclosure 1 to Despatch No. 112 of the
7th. March, 1903.
Suggested Alterations in the Government
Public Mortuary.
*****
1.
The Government Public Mortuary is now inadequate
to meet the requirements of the Colony. In my opinion it ought
to be double the size it is at present.
2.
Provision ought to be made for at least 30 Post-
Mortem Tables. At present there is accommodation for 16 Tables
only, and these are far too closely packed together.
3. The Post-Mortem Tables ought to be of a much im-
proved pattern. Those at present in use are antiquated, and
allow of no thorough disinfection.
4. The cross wall in the middle of the Mortuary
should be arched the full width of the building, (or removed).
5. The two existing doors in the south wall of the
building might be partially built up and a full sized door
inserted.
6. A full sized porcelain sink should be fixed to the
centre of the north wall of the building. At present there is no proper sink in the Mortuary Compound. This I consider a
serious defect.
7. The floor of the Mortuary and Office ought to be
made with fire clay glazed tiles, 4 inches square. The present
arrangement is highly dangerous to the attendants and allows of
no thorough cleansing.
9. The fixed ventilating wooden screen arrangements
below the windows of the Mortuary are useless and ought to be
blocked up or removed.
9. Glazed white tiles ought to be inserted 4 feet up
