I originally recommended that the work
should be given to Professor Ireland because (a) he is an expert (and indexing is a thing that to be well done requires experience in the work) and (b) because it did not appear to me that anyone in this Office had time to do it.
There is force in the fact that the
Chief Clerk has papers passing through his hands and can index as he goes along and if Mr. Drayson wil undertake to do the work of the papers and the Library I see no objection.
